World Series Final Game Draws Over 50 Million Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The exciting extra-inning clash where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined over 50 million watchers across the United States, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB announced this represents the most-watched Fall Classic finale since the 1991 contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable game averaged over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a 16% increase over the last finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 was seventh, Game 5 came in 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game recorded over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English program in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series averaged 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the complete American average reached over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million viewers, an 8% rise compared to last year and the network’s strongest playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in sixteen different languages.
